PolyU appoints Dr. Meikei Ieong as Advisory Committee Member on Applied Physics

Simbury is grateful that Dr. Meikei Ieong, our Chairman, is appointed by Department of Applied Physics of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) as the Advisory Committee Member on Applied Physics, advising the Department on the scope and nature of its academic programmes, research and other scholarly activities in order to relate these to the needs of Hong Kong.

Dr. Ieong is a global technology leader with rich experience of managing large and complex projects covering research and development, marketing and commercialisation. He is the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Fellow and achieved Ph.D. and M.S. of Electrical and Computer Engineering, University of Massachusetts Amherst and MBA of Sloan Fellows Program, MIT Sloan School of Management. He has authored and co-authored more than 230 peer-reviewed papers in journals and conference proceedings, with over 14,600 citation and more than 190 invention patents.

Possessing more than 25 years’ experience in the semiconductor industry, Dr. Ieong found Simbury and Semiconductor Nanotechnology Alliance (SNA). He held senior executive positions in Hong Kong Applied Science and Technology Research Institute (ASTRI), Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) and IBM.

Simbury is one of the leading Integrated Circuit (IC) companies for metaverse, offering comprehensive technologies portfolio to meet various Artificial Intelligence (AI) and metaverse applications. ‘I am honoured to be a member of advisory committee to advise the department on the scope and nature of its academic programmes, research and other activities, in respect of the department concerned,’ said Dr. Ieong, ‘I learned that Applied Physics has a new Master of Science in Microelectronics Technology & Materials, which I believed the program can nurture high quality graduates with knowledge and hands-on skills to contribute to booming semiconductor industry’s development.’
